As the weather outside goes from delightful to frightful, RAW foodies, clean eaters and smoothie lovers begin to put aside all their frozen fruit recipes in favor of warmer, even hot, smoothie recipes.  There is nothing more comforting than a warm breakfast smoothie or a hot afternoon snack that is chock-full of hearty ingredients, winter spices, and creamy textures.  Below is a list of my absolute GO-TO superfood winter smoothies!

What defines winter more than hot gingerbread?  This is one of my all-time favorite smoothies and the only thing better is a GingerBread Winter Smoothie accompanied by homemade gingerbread itself!

What’s more is the My Healthy Living Coach explains why this smoothie is super duper healthy, “The spices in this smoothie not only recreate the gingerbread flavour, but also give a boost to your metabolism. Cinnamon keeps your arteries healthy, ginger improves the absorption and assimilation of the nutrients in your body, the cloves reduce inflammation and cardamom helps detox the kidneys. Bring them all together and you have a powerful medicine and a delicious taste!”

OK, bring it on!

Tis the season for all things pumpkin, and rightly so pumpkin is creamy, filling and comforting.  I realize the internet is screaming with pumpkin recipes, but this one … this one is different.  Not only because it’s vegan AND gluten free, but because it’s both delicious and healthy … unlike those pumpkin drinks at that overly-priced, overrated, hipster “coffee” conglomerate, Starbucks.

Pumpkin is extremely high in fiber, low in calories and packs an abundance of disease-fighting nutrients, including potassium, pantothenic acid, magnesium and vitamins C and E.  Pumpkin also contains one of the richest supplies of bioavailable carotenoids known to man!

This is one way to go about giving your kids everything they ever wanted (chocolate for breakfast) and everything you ever wanted (healthy breakfast your kids will eat).

According to Lynsey Loves Food, you can actually have chocolate for breakfast because  “Cocoa (when you pick the good stuff) is rich in magnesium, and ram-jammed with lots of phytonutrients that have been linked to reducing your risk of developing cardiovascular disease, improving insulin sensitivity, and protecting your skin from UV damage. Next, the addition of hemp hearts and chia seeds increase the protein content, and provide a good dose of omega-3s and soluble fibre which will keep your belly full and happy all day long. Add a few dates for sweetness, a little cinnamon and maca for some added superfood mojo, blend it all together and you have one thick and creamy AM delight.

That’s what I’m talking about!  Visit Lynsey for this scrumptious Hot Chocolate Breakfast

Please be sure to add your own recipes as I can never ever have enough toasty comforting drinks to sip as the snow falls!!
