Build a Life You Don’t Need a Vacation From: Live the Dream!

I jumped outta bed this morning, my body totally rejuvenated from the best night sleep, my eyes bright and my mind already stoked for what today holds…a day of paragliding, kayaking, photography and family fun.

Family fun being the keyword.  If you follow us, you know that we value spending time with each other and our children above all else.  They are fun and adventurous and happy, joyful people. They help us look at life with a sort of abandon that most adults have forgotten.

There is no denying that most people our age, meaning adults with families, are simply unable to live with abandon, or actually, think they are unable.  They have bills to pay, jobs to go to, responsibilities, etc.

But what if those bills could get paid while you are traveling full time or on vacation to the Swiss Alps or Rome or the Mediterranean?  What if?  You know it’s not beyond the realm of possibilities, right?  Anything is possible, right?

We set out to Build a Life We Didn’t Need a Vacation From!

I’m a firm believer that “if you can dream it, you can do it.”  Do you know who said that?  Walt Disney.  Walt Disney said that and he’s the curator, the imagination, the brains behind Disney World … arguably the happiest place on earth, right?

So instead of thinking of your kids and your responsibilities, your bills and even that job you hate as the albatross around your neck, think of them all as the catalyst for change.

Right now there is one society endorsed train of thought and it goes something like this:

  • Go to School to be educated to be an employee
  • Go to college to perfect your skills as an employee
  • Get a job, and then another job every three to four years over the course of your 40 year career.
  • Realize you can’t retire, so you work until you die.

Nowhere does society encourage the anyone to Live the Dream.

Seriously does that sound like the American Dream?  Or anyone’s dream?  Nope, not even close. And this would explain why, according to Forbes.com 70% of Americans HATE their jobs. “Hate” their jobs.  That is a travesty y’all of devastating proportions!

Are you one of the 70%?  Or are you one of the lucky 30%?  I can tell you Dan and I were heading down the road of the miserable, cubicle coma, job hating masses.  Dan was commuting 3 hours per day, working for people who didn’t value him and/or saw him as a threat, navigating the politics of the corporate world and feeling fully unfulfilled.  This wasn’t the life I envisioned when I dreamed of being a wife and mother and it wasn’t the life he envisioned as an entrepreneur, a business owner, supporting his family.

But, we needed a paycheck, we had children, we had a mortgage.  However, we were brave and filled with hunger.  We started a lot of businesses and participated in a few network marketing programs, but we didn’t know what we were doing. We didn’t do any of it right, and we were hoping to just get lucky.

And, you know, maybe luck works for some people, but it sure as heck didn’t work for us!  We are not lucky people.  We are certainly blessed…blessed with health, blessed with love, blessed with family, blessed with so so much…but not lucky. We can never be accused of being lucky.  Ever. Or privileged, let’s not go there!

But we are scrappers.  We fight and claw for everything we have, from our home to our RV. We are adamant that we will not be stuck, that we will not become trapped, that if we want to travel full time, damnit, we will make it happen, even with 12 kids, even with an enormous mortgage, even while pregnant … we are truly unstoppable.

And I’m certain all of you have that in you too.  For some it’s deeper than others, but it’s there.  And you know it burned brighter when you were younger. You had dreams, you had aspirations, but life happened.  Right?  You did everything you were supposed to do to be a responsible adult and now perhaps you are one of the 70% who dread Mondays and look forward to Fridays?

But, the good news is, you aren’t forced to continue with that job or career, choices are yours and they are plentiful. It’s never too late to make changes, to think anew.  It’s just that now, with outgoing expenses, you need to make a substantial amount more than you did when you were 20, right?

So now, you gotta go against the man, you gotta fight the urge to follow the well traveled path and instead GO ROGUE!  Do what you want to do, do what makes you feel alive.  All things that would have been easier at 20, but better late than never.

If you don’t know how, you are not alone. No-one knows HOW, not in the beginning.  But then the truly ambitious, those with the passion, the hunger and the drive, they start learning and they start thinking outside the box.  They start asking questions and considering the answers they receive.

Success is duplicatable, it’s not just for the lucky or the super hard worker. Rather, it’s particularly for those who learn to move, to be fluid with the times and think creatively!

Your mind is either your greatest asset or your biggest obstacle.

So many people are prisoners to their limited thinking, their plethora of excuses and a feeling of hopelessness.  But, that doesn’t have to be permanent. We are not victims of circumstances. I’m a firm believer that once you change your mindset, you change your life and the possibilities open up like flood gates.

So, how do you change your mindset?  You do affirmations, you meditate, you pray, you follow inspiring people, and you make your life mimic your dreams.  You do whatever motivates you and makes you feel better, stronger, smarter and more worthy.  You do whatever helps you train your mind to think outside the box.

You are the only person in the world who can change your circumstances, your job, your life. And, if you find the fire that burns within you, you can live the life you dreamed of; heck, you can live a life you never fathomed remotely possible!

Start today, right now.  No need to wait until tomorrow or Monday.  You don’t have to wait forever or until the time is right, because trust me, the time will never be more right than it is this second!

Be the Change!  Live the Dream.
